A typical summer’s day for Whaea Kerry

For all the tamariki on this year’s Summer Learning Journey, this one’s for you.

My comic strip tells the story of the summers I share with my husband.  Every year, I try to tempt my husband, Mike, in for a swim at the beach, but it’s either too cold, too windy or too wet for him.  Whereas, I love the sea. I love to swim and one day I hope to learn to surf.  This comic strip sums up a frequent conversation we have and it always makes me smile.   It’s become a running joke between the two of us.  Mike’s happy sunning himself in the deck chair and I’ll be out there trying to catch some waves.

Summer Learning Journey – Surfboard Designs

This activity was a lot of fun.  Here’s my attempt at customising a surfboard to my liking.  I’ve used the name SuperShark Surfboards for my business idea.  I always thinks sharks get a lot of negative attention, so I think it’s time we started to think about how they are just as important as any other creature in the ocean.  We need sharks to keep our oceans healthy, and they also help to keep carbon out of the atmosphere.  Being at the top of the food chain, they have few predators, but it’s estimated that over 100 million are killed by humans every year.  We need to do more to protect our sharks.  You can read more about how important our sharks are here.

Summer Learning Journey – Poster Design

In this activity, we’re exploring how to create our own summer poster.  It could be for a summer party, a picnic or just to show the fun summer vibes. I’ve collated some easy graphic assets from the free slides made my SlidesGo.  The great thing about these assets is that they are all editable so you can change the colours to suit and customise them to their liking.

This it the kick starter lesson, here’s my first attempt at creating a poster in Google Slides with customised graphics. I live in the Bay of Islands, so summer for me involves relaxing at our local beaches.  I’ll be reading and maybe even get to try out a bit of surfing.  Here’s a poster of me at the beach, my ideal place of rest and relaxation.
